Students will learn and practice writing an email to a friend asking for advice.

Main Aims

  • To introduce and provide practice of writing a short email to a friend asking for advice.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about to a friend asking for advice.

Procedure

Lead-in (5 minutes) • To introduce students to the topic of advice.

Students will ask each other for advice on what to eat tomorrow, helping each other decide. They will be in breakout rooms discussing this topic for 3 minutes, follow by 1-2 minutes of feedback.

Text analysis (10 minutes) • To provide an example of an email writing for advice and identifying MFP of the target language used

Students will individually read the example and answer the questions on the provided handout. We will conduct a quick feedback on the answers, followed by a breakdown of the sections and language used.

Writting Task (15 minutes) • To allow students to practice writing their own emails in this context

Students will go to their assigned page in the Google doc and will practice writing an email to a friend. They will have my example to use as a reference.

Feedback (10 minutes) • To allow students to read each other's work and provide feedback to each other

Students will go to the breakout rooms with their partner and read each other's email. They will follow a checklist to ensure they have included all the necessary parts.

DEC (5 minutes) • To correct any confusion or mistakes found throughout the lesson.

I will use my Google slides DEC slide to highlight some mistakes found in the lesson and allow students to identify the issue.
