Description

In this lesson students will practice conversation, improve fluency and acquire useful language in the context of describing an event.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To introduce and provide practice of speaking for fluency in the context of describing an event

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of I liked the most, I've ever, was absolutely huge, fascinating, exhausting, disappointing, impressive, in the context of Describing an event
  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about Describing memorable events in the context of Describing an event.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher shares with students the screen and will explain on how to participate in this task. (They will need to answer in their phones all the ideas they have about the question that eill appear on the screen).Ss answer just by looking at the screen the question: Which events have you been to? and What was the atmosphere like? After that Ss will answer on their phones (brainstorming) and then, they will see all class answers. students will work individual, then students will share their answers with all the class.

Exposure (6-7 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Teacher will share screen with students and explain Ss the task. They will hear four people describing a memorable event, each student will answer individually the questions given in google slide (Teacher will send the link on chatbox) and they will write the answers. After 2 minutes students will share their answers on breakout rooms and after that they are going to share it in Open Class Feedback. After that students will hear again the audio and select individually, which event is each sentence about, on google forms.Then they will check their answers in Breakout rooms and later in Open Class Feedback.

Useful Language (5-6 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Teacher will give Ss language they can use to do the speaking task, in this case, Useful Language sections. This will include a quick analysis of MFP Meaning: I will share screen with students and explain by giving examples , the meaning of different lexic used to describe an event. They will recognize the M all together. T. will ask CCQ's to identify meaning. Ex. Do this sentence is used to express preference, description, memories? Form: T. will ask students to put in a correct order the structure of each sentence (all together) What I liked the most about it was Pronoun+Verb+Determiner+Adverb+Preparation+Verb It was the most amazing concert I've ever been. Pronoun+Verb+Determiner+Adverb+Adjective+Noun+Pronoun+Verb+Adverb+Verb It was absolutely huge. Pronoun+Verb+Adverb+Adjective Looking back, what I remember best was.. Verb+Adverb+Pronoun+Verb+Adjective+Verb Pronunciation/Intonation:( all together) I will focus on sentence stress. I will read the sentences out loud so students can identify the words I'm stressing. I will ask students to drill the sentences. I will focus on question intonation.

Productive Task(s) (19-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Teacher will allow Ss to talk about the topic (asking about places, explaining where they are, and important features of a place) twice, with different peers. They will have a Jamboard to help them in this Task. After that Ss will share in OCFB their peers answers and say Which event described would they like to have attended and explain why? CCQ. Are you going to start the task individually or in teams?

Feedback and Error Correction (6-7 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Teacher will provide Ss with feedback on language based on monitoring of the task. (Sharing screen to show examples on Powerpoint slide)
