  • To provide accuracy speaking practice on instructions in the context of recipes

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students by asking about Ss favorite recipe

-T will ask Ss if they cook? -T will ask for their favorite recipes? -Do you surf the web for recipes? -Do you follow recipes for cooking?

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the TL by making Ss divide the terms, provided in the HO, into the columns of the document

-T will provide Ss in the main session, with a HO document link. -The document will consist of many recipe related terms. -It will have 3 columns, first one for the terms they are aware of, second column for terms they might know but they are not so sure and 3rd - they are not aware of. -Ss will have to add the terms into the columns according to their prior knowledge.

Teach (11-15 minutes) • To clarify areas of the TL where Ss had difficulty in the first test stage. By providing images or meaning, form and pronunciation clarification.

1-T will ask Ss to state the terms they know the meaning of. -T will randomly select one of the tough terms they stated they know, and ask for its meaning. 2-T will ask Ss to state the terms they are not sure of, and ask other S to try to help clear the meaning and provide examples. 3-T will ask Ss to state the terms that they don't know at all. -T will elicit the meaning & continue with CDWS.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the TL again and compare with the first test, by providing exercise 2 recipe - to arrange the instructions of the recipe in logical order.

-Ss will have 2 recipes (mini recipe for demonstration) -The recipe method/instructions are disorganized. -Ss will have to organize the recipe in a logical order. -Ss will be exposed to the terms once again in the text of the recipe.

Free practice (12-14 minutes) • To provide Ss with free practice of the TL, by role playing (recipe provider & cook)

-Pair work in breakout rooms for 12 minutes. -Ss will take turns to share their favorite recipe, to each other. -Your friend wants to invite you over at his/her place. -They would like to cook something you really like. -They call you and ask you for your favorite recipe and the method to cook it.
