In this lesson students will learn about how and when to use: present continuous and be going to. Also they will have opportunities to practice in different type of tasks.


Main Aims

  • To practice and revise present continues and going to for future idea.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of the present continuous and going to for future


Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher will share with students the screen and will ask students to see 2 short videos and answer the questions. (what are these people doing now? Where are they going to? Why are they going to this trip? after the instructions, students will work on teams so they can talk about the questions included in the slides, then students will share their answers will all the class.

Exposure (4-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Teacher will share screen with students and ask students to read individually the conversation and select the best title of the given options. After 3 minutes students will share the answer on breakout rooms and then they are going to share the answer in Open Class Feedback.

Highlighting (3-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Teacher will share screen with students and show them a google slide, then explain to students that they will underline the present continuous and will highlight the be going to tense. Students will work first individually, then will work in 3 teams and later they will share their answers in OCFB.

Clarification (9-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Meaning: I will ask students CCQ's to identify meaning. Ex. Which one is organized in the present? Which one talks about a future plan? I’m going to work in Japan. I'm learning a lot of things. Form: I will ask students to put in a correct order the structure of each tense. (Be going to) Subject+verb to be+going to +verb in base form+complement (Present continuous) Subject+verb to be+ main verb in present participle (-ing)+ complement The first two tasks will be on teams. Then after that they are going to share their answers in teams and after that OCFB. Pronunciation:(This part will be all together) I will focus on sentence stress. I will read the sentences out loud so students can identify the words I'm stressing. I will ask students to drill the sentences.

Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

I will provide controlled practice of the language, send students Google Form link after explaining to them the instructions. They are going to order the sentences in the correct form.The learners will do this individually and then will check in teams (breakout rooms). After that they are going to share their answer by OCFB.

Free Practice (11-12 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will share screen whit students and explain to them the communicative task . They will discuss the questions on the notes in the jamboard in teams. (use breakout rooms). After that they will share their answers in OCFB. Conduct Feedback and DEC.
