Description

In this lesson, students will be introduced and provided practice of speaking for fluency about times and prices.

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice using collocations and prepositions regarding time and prices

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students in the topic.

What a quick clip of Mr. Bean waking up to his alarm clock. Then, ask learners to talk about their favorite movie in pairs/groups in breakout rooms followed by a quick OCFB.

Preparation (5-6 minutes) • To give Ss language they can use to do the speaking task (Ex. 5a & Ex 8) and scaffold the speaking task.

Telling the time and money Meaning - and connect the times to the clocks using Jamboard in MR. Form- Then present sentences to ask and tell the time using Google Slides. Ss listen to audio from the coursebook (audio: track 40) then ask individual Ss to fill in the gaps on the slides. Drill and practice money amounts on slide with emphasis on form and pronunciation. Pronunciation - Drill questions and answers with linking, intonation, etc., on pronunciation slide. Appropriateness - clarify polite and informal ways to ask the time.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Present and practice useful language from the audio (track:45) on Useful Phrases slide for students to use in the productive task.

Productive Task(s) (12-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Roll Play Ss to do a roll play where one S is selling tickets at a cinema and another S is buying tickets using the TL. Demo with one strong S first. Ss then practice in BR rooms and change partners one or two times. Additional Activity: Ss can then talk about what they purchased today and at what times (if there is enough time) Monitor Ss in BR and write down any language errors, etc.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Provide feedback on content and language on a separate slide.
