Description

In this lesson students will practise speaking for fluency and accuracy in the context of house vocabulary by using ''There is / are''. After the ss are introduced the context, they will practise new vocabulary and drill them. Then they will be given some flashcards and phrases about the cards to match. This will be followed by the presentation of a dream house.It will be a memory game which will enable them to speak and write a bit. For the last activity, they will be given two different pictures to compare orally.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of a dream house

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of '' there is / are'' in the context of a dream house
  • To provide clarification and practice of furniture lexis in the context of a dream house

Procedure

Lead-in (0-2 minutes) • to get students' attention on the topic by using visual materials

T will stick the pictures of two houses on WB. One of them will be an expensive house, the other one will be an ordinary house. Ss will be introduced with the concept of ' a dream house' and asked which one is a normal house.

Pre-teaching vocabulary (0-4 minutes) • To introduce the ss with the vocabulary of the speaking activity

T will show the pictures and try to elicit the words from the ss.

Drilling the new vocabulary (0-5 minutes) • To provide ss to practise on the correct pronunciation of new vocabulary

Ss will drill the vocabulary in various ways. A group will repeat the word just after another group and also mumble drilling will be an alternative way to practise the new words.

Matching the vocabulary with the pictures (0-5 minutes) • To make sure that ss have practised new vocabulary adequately

Ss will be given a HO to match the pictures with the correct words.

Presentation of the form of new vocabulary (0-2 minutes) • To make sure that ss are aware what the written form of new vocabulary is

Vocabulary pictures will be on the board and ss will be given the words to match with the pics on the board.

While speaking activity #1 (0-6 minutes) • To provide ss practise on speaking for accuracy through a controlled activity

Ss will be work on pairs and given two pictures to spot the differences. They will ask some questions about their friend's picture. Then they will come to the board and write their answers under the categories 'Picture 1' and 'Picture 2'.If it is necessary, teacher will add the differences which haven't been noticed by ss.

While speaking activity #2 (0-10 minutes) • To provide ss to practise on speaking for fluency by a memory game

Ss will be divided into two groups called ''The Computers'' and ''The Televisions''. Each group will be given the same picture and they will be allowed to look at the picture for a minute. They won't write anything while looking at it. When the time is over, ss will give the pictures back to T and T will give them a HO. There will be two categories in the HO: ''There is'' and ''There are''. Groups will write down as many details as they can remember under two headings. They will have five minutes to do it.

Checking the answers (0-4 minutes) • To provide ss to see a different version of the writing which they have worked in the previous stage

The Computers and The Televisions will swop their sheets and check the answers by using the answer key given by T. Ss will congratulate the winners.

Writing as a post-speaking activity (0-7 minutes) • To provide ss to link the TL and new vocabulary that they have already practised with their personal lives

Ss will write about their dream houses with their pairs.After they finish, T will have a quick look at their writings and stick the writings on the wall so that ss will be able to read each other's dream houses.

Error Correction (0-2 minutes) • To provide ss to correct their mistakes

T will try to elicit the correct answers from ss by writing their mistakes on the board.
