In this lesson Ss will practice their receptive skills of reading.They will read a text first and study regular and irregular plural forms of nouns in a controlled practice.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and scan reading practice using a text about Typical features of british people in the context of life

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of irregular plurals in the context of life

Procedure

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-Focus on the photo of the text.Elicit And teach vocabulary (newspaper, garden, fish fingers, chips pizza, beer, a sign, non-smoking restaurant) -Get Ss to decide which pictures show something typically British.Get some FB but don't tell them if they are right or wrong yet

While-Reading/Listening #1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

-Tell the studens read the text and focus on the words that they dont know and try to guess the meanings of the new words. -Ss then read the text and check their answers in A

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

-Ask ss how to make plurals. Tell them Very few english words have irregular plural forms. -Ss the read first paragraph and find the four irregular forms -Emphasize as these words are plural, they must use plural verbs. -Ss read the text again and underline three things which are the same in their country. -Ss compare answers _FB

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

-Give Ss five minutes to think and ask them to talk about any other typical features of their country. -Monitor and FB
