Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of desert ;field; mountains in the context of of life on North Africa
  • To provide deduction reading for detail practice using a text about Family That lives in North Africa

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (4-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will start the lesson by showing a picture of Africa to students and ask them what do you see ? have you ever went to Africa? what do you know about Africa? would you like to see it then?. T will display another picture showing exactly where North Africa is. First T will ask them to indicate where north Africa, probably they won't know so T already colored them in a different color to make it easier for them.T again in another slide will show them one country from north Africa witch is morocco and that's where T is from. T will show pictures next to it of desert and fields and mountains and try to elicit these words from them, T will ask the SS what do you think is Morrocco is famous for? and instruct them to use the pictures as a hint then T will add some additional facts or information.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T is ready to show the SS the text in the next slide and tell them that now they will read a text about Hassan and Walid who are from north Africa. T will give the SS instruction that they will have to answer the questions displayed next to the text and read the text carefully and answer the question. T will give the SS enough time so that they will understand who is it about, and who is talking to who, and what happened. T will do ICQ ask do SS what are you going to do? individually or with groups? how many minutes do you have? After they finish the task. T will begin choosing the SS to answer each question. T will give feedback and also some additional questions and also give SS more information to make sure they understand all the details about the text.

Highlighting (8-9 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T will now show another slide displaying again the same text. T will draw SS's attention to the highlighted words in the text. T will ask the SS if they can see the highlighted words clearly? T has already written them next to the text in case.T will tell the SS to look at the text and look for what or who are they referring to. T will do ICQ's: how many minutes do you have? what are you going to do? T will elicit answers from SS then will ask SS a direct question what do we call these words ? and try to elicit from them pronouns which probably will be the easiest answer for the SS. Then T will give feedback and tell them they are object pronouns and ask them why do they think we used them in the text instead of mentioning the names? then T will show another slide of more examples using all the other object pronouns other than the ones in the text. T will ask the SS where is the subject and where is the object pronoun.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T is ready to clarify each object pronoun to the SS. T will show in the slides each OP one by one and asks them when do we use this one for example first Object Pronoun Him when do we use it? is it when we talk about a person? is it a female? or a male? is it one person ? or more? and do the same for the other object pronoun (me; you; him; her; it; us; them) T will also make sure of their pronunciation and also write a clarifying language on how to pronounce them if needed. Now that T made sure that SS have understood what are the Object Pronouns and which is which. T will show SS in the next slides 4 sentences as examples above and under it there are assumptions about OP and SS have to see if the sentences are true or false and they have to use the sentences above for help. T will elicit answers from SS and give feedback and provide more details and error correction.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

SS are ready for practice the first activity T will first instruct the SS to open their chat box and to click on the learning app. T will instruct the ss to change the highlighted words with object pronouns T will give first an example for the SS. T may send the ss INTO BREAKOUT ROOMS BUT IT DEPENDS ON HOW THE GROUP WILL BE ON THURSDAY. T will then do ICQ's. T will show the app on the share screen and elicit answers from SS then do error correction if necessary then T asks SS to take a screenshot.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further

T will again give students another task more challenging than the previous one . T will do the first steps as the previous activity then give again construction followed by ICQ and set the first sentence as an example give them time depending on the remaining time for the lesson. T may again do breakout but again depending on the class. After the SS finish the task T will elicit answers choosing specific individuals while also displaying the app on the share screen and match the answer as the SS say then check the answers and do some error correction if necessary ad tells them to again take a screenshot then T will ask the SS for any questions and then T finishes the class with this activity .
