Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a group discussion in the context of things you can't live without

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide specific information listening practice using a text about things I'd hate to be without in the context of things you can't live without

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will show Ss some pictures of objects we use daily and ask Ss to imagine how their lives will be without these objects

Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

T will pre-teach few lexical items used in the recording and ask Ss to listen and complete the table individually, then in pairs Ss will check their answers and T will provide o.c feedback

Useful Language (5-7 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T will ask Ss to individually list five things they can't live without, then write descriptions of these objects and why they are important for them. T will elicit some of the useful expressions used in the model recording and hand Ss the useful language sheet.

Productive Task(s) (16-18 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Ss will talk about their objects with their partners, T will be monitoring for any linguistic mistakes or slips and helping when needed. T will ask Ss to switch to another partner and share their thoughts with them

Feedback and Error Correction (7-9 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T will ask Ss about common things they found about their partners providing content feedback and will write some mistakes on w/b asking Ss to correct these mistakes as linguistic feedback.
