Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide specific information about the ongoing action.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher shows the slides about Jill, she introduces her. Jill is a student, but she doesn't go to university today. let's see what she is doing?

Exposure (7-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

The teacher shows the first two slides and uses present continuous to make sentences. She is waking up, and she is washing her face. For the other slides, the teacher will ask students, 'what is she doing?' Students answer she's brushing her teeth. The teacher will ask yes/ no questions to elicit. She is washing her face. Is she washing her face right now? yes Do you see her? yes Is it finished? no Is this the past, present, or future action? present

Clarification (5-5 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

The teacher drills the sentences. points out the negative form and question form, and contraction In drilling, the teacher mentions the correct pronunciation of /ing/ He is cooking Is he dancing? He isn't dancing. Then the teacher shows the timeline to clarify the tense

Controlled Practice (10-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The teacher talks about her very noisy neighbors. and elicits the meaning of noise Are they quiet? Do they listen to loud music? Then the teacher shows the slides and tells students why she is unhappy with her neighbors. In this way, she is pre-teaching the verb phrases. At the same time, she is practicing present continuously by eliciting it from students with the attention of contractions and /ing/ pronunciation. The teacher plays the listening and asks students to say what everyone is doing in the audio? The teacher pauses the audio after the first conversation. Then elicits the answers and shows the picture of the actions; students should use present continuous to respond. The teacher plays the second part of the audio and asks students to answer' why Isabel is unhappy?" The teacher elicits the answer. Students are given the learning app link and in their pairs or individually, should complete the conversation with the verbs given. They have just listened to the conversation so it must be easy for them.

Semi-controlled Practice+listening (10-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

The teacher plays the audio and asks students to listen and say what the woman is doing? She’s checking in at a hotel. The teacher asks how you know. Students replay by saying, have a reservation, key The teacher plays the rest of the audio after each conversation the teacher pauses and asks for the answer and how they know, Students should answer by using the target language.

Free Controlled Practice (10-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

The teacher plays some sounds, students should make a sentence. Somebody's cooking. The teacher shows the answers on the slide. Spot the difference: Students are into two groups, A and B In their pairs students each have different pictures and by using the target language should make sentences like: Flat 2: In A the woman is painting the wall; in B she is reading. Then they compare their photos to see the differences.
