Main Aims

  • To present the vocabulary words (Prepositions) ; to provide controlled and semi-controlled practice.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To enable Ss to speak for fluency using the vocabulary words.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will start the lesson by reviewing the vocabulary words "Prepositions" that Ss learned in a previous lesson, as this lesson is a complement to it. As an activity, Ss will work in pairs to write the prepositions for each picture. Answers will be displayed in the main room.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

To introduce the vocabulary words, I will use toys to demonstrate. I will ask CCQ to ensure they understand and use drilling to check pronunciation. I will preview slide 4 and ask Ss about the pictures to let Ss recall what they have learned in the introduction. This stage will help Ss visualize and relate words with pictures.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will let each student say the words by pointing at them to check Ss pronunciation.

Controlled Practice (5-7 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Send the activity link to the students. Send Ss into breakout rooms to do it in pairs. Ss should match the sentences with pictures. Answers will be displayed in the main room.

Semi-Controlled Practice (10-15 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Introduce the map, ask Ss if they know where the art gallery, shopping centre, and the pharmacy. Check them on the map. Ss have to find "You are here" on the map, then listen to the recording to write the places on the map. I will pause after each sentence to allow Ss to think and answer. Check the answers together in the main room. Divide the class into As and Bs. Ss A works together in pairs and Ss B does the same. They each look at the relevant page and decide where the places should be written on the map. Monitor to help Ss. Then put Ss into A/B pairs to ask and answer each other. In feedback check the position of the four places.

Free Practice (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Brainstorm some places. If there are Ss who have the same favorite place, they could prepare together. Let weaker Ss could work together so that I can provide extra help. They can then join different groups in the next exercise. monitor Ss will be sent to break-out rooms to discuss. I will monitor discreetly and take notes of Ss' performance. In feedback, invite volunteers to briefly tell the class about one of their group's favorite places.
