Listening, topic: real friends.

Description

In this lesson, Ss will listen to people talk about their friends and family, while learning different qualities in friends and differentiating real friends from false ones. By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to describe their friends using the key vocabulary.

Materials

Abc 3.2, 2A - Matching activity
Abc 3.2, 2B - Tick the correct answer

Main Aims

  • To expose Ss to different kinds of listening activities, and introduce common qualities friends possess.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency in using the qualities of friends learned in class.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-Start with a story about my 2 friends and describe how I am with each one of them, and how they are with me in my life. -Try to elicit from Ss, who is my best friend, based on what they just heard. >From the two friends I spoke about, who do you think is my best friend? -Ask them Qs, to make sure they were listening. >Where did I meet by best friend? >How long have I known her for?

Pre-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the audio and make it accessible

-Pre-teach vocabulary, that will be required during the lesson. -Key words like: Qualities, friendly, talkative, close friends. -Mention other words like: online friends, personal. -CCQs: >Qualities: -can a person have more than one?yes -is it something we feel?yes -An example would be? >friendly: -Can it be anyone? (yes) -Does it have to be someone you know?(No) -it means to be nice others?Yes >Talkative: -A person is always on the phone, is this him?Yes -Does it mean a call center?No >Close friends: -Does it have to be someone sitting next to you?No -Is it someone who knows many things about you?Yes

While-Listening #1 (12-15 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and then specific information listening task

Activity1 -Ss will be required to listen to an audio from the SB, 3.2 recording for task 2A, page 30. -Gist listening, they will catch the key words mentioned, to do the matching activity. -Ss will listen to one recording, with three parts and 3 different people speaking. -This will warm them up for the next activity 2. Activity 2 Next the same audio will be played: -Ss must tick the correct answer from the given options.

While-Listening #2 (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

-T will play the video, prepared by the book on the same context: unit 3 'People'. -The video is a minute & a half long. -Mention there are 7 people who talk in the video. -Ss will be given a link for the activity. -They must listen to the video & re-arrange the sentences in the correct order said. -Ss will discuss with their partner, to find the right order . -Pair Ss to breakout rooms & let them discuss their answers. ( minutes)

Post-Listening (6-8 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the questions and expand on what they've learned

-T asks Ss to share, if they have online friends as well? -How they met their friends? -What are their qualities? -Any special stories or funny ones on the same context(How they met their friends). -Discuss things about their friends & what makes them like them.
