Description

This lesson is planned to help the students practice listening and speaking skills. The students will be shown a photo of a TV to warm them up. The Teacher asks a student some questions about his TV watching habits. The students will work in pairs to answer questions about their favourite and unfavourite TV programmes. The teacher elicits a couple of two new words; using CCQs and photos when needed. The teacher tells the students some information about the topic they are going to listen. The students listen to five people and match the speakers with the topics in Activity 3. The SS do more listening activities. By the end of the lesson, the students will have practiced speaking skill through some controlled, semi controlled and free activities.

Procedure

Warm - up (1 minutes) • To prepare the students for the listening activities.

The students see a photo and guess the topic of the lesson.

Pre listening (8 minutes) • To prepare the students for the listening exercises.

The teacher starts asking a student about his/her favorite television programme. "Do you like to watch films? Yes, I do. What type? I watch scary films. and so on. The students work in pairs. Every student chooses three questions and ask them to his partner and vice versa. During this stage I can elicit some probable difficult words such as documentary, horror films and thrillers .

Pre listening (2 minutes) • To pave the way for the students to listen.

The teacher tells the students that they are going to listen to five people talking about their favorite television programmes. The teacher shows the students the photos of the people while talking.

While listening (10 minutes) • To listen for the gist.

The students listen to find the television programme that every speaker is talking about in addition they they write Yes or No as an answer on the question. Does he or she like this type of programme?

While listening (5 minutes) • To listen for details.

The students listen again and put the sentences in the correct order.

Post listening (7 minutes) • To practice semi - controlled speaking

The teacher tries to elicit the meanings of advantages and disadvantages before speaking In pairs, the students start a discussion around some questions.

Post listening (7 minutes) • To practice free speaking.

The students start a free practice activity.

Error Correction (5 minutes) • To help the students overcome their common errors.

During the speaking activities, the teacher listens to the students' discussions and write the errors in his notebook. After the end of the speaking activities,the teacher writes the sentences that have errors and ask the students if they are correct or not. The students try to find the errors and correct them.
