Description

In this lesson students will learn how to give advice. The lesson starts with a question about the difficulties they have faced and the advice they were given to overcome them. This is followed by a controlled practice where students are requested to classify certain expressions into three categories. Finally they are asked to give advice on how to lose weight.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T sends a link to google slides presentation where ss are asked to answer a question related to the problems and difficulties they have gone through and what advice were they given to help them overcome them

Exposure (3-5 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

T sends a link to google slides presentation where ss are asked to read a model article about how to remove a stuck ring. Ss are asked to notice the different expressions used for giving advice.

Useful Language (5-8 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T sends a google slides presentation where ss are asked to classify the expressions used for giving advice into three categories. T sends ss to BOR to work in pairs. Ss are asked to discuss their answer in group. T elicit answer from ss. T shows a model answer. T elicits the form of each expression from ss.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T sends a link to a google slides presentation where ss are asked to write an article giving an advice about how to lose weight. T monitors while they write.

Feedback and Error Correction (5-7 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T asks ss to pair check their friend's writing. T asks some ss to read their articles loudly. T writes down the students' mistakes. T elicits the correct answer from ss.
