Description

In this lesson Ss. practice functional language related to things that they want to refund or change. First Ss. will look at a picture and find out the topic of the session. They will discuss in pairs about a situation when they bought something and had to return it back. Next, Ss. will find out the meaning of different phrases in dialogues. They will also mention what type of sentences they are and practice their intonation.

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of language used to practice functional language related to saying what is wrong with things that they want to refund or change in the context of it's burnt; it doesn't work, it's scratched; they shrunk; it's mouldy; it's gone off; it has a big coffee stain; it's an unwanted gift;

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of language used for Shop Assistant's answers in the context of refund, replacement, gift receipt, credit note

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ss. will take a look at different images, and will find out our topic. Working in Breakout Rooms Ss. will tell their partners if they have you ever taken anything back to a shop because it went wrong and what happened.

Exposure (7-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

T. will play a video. Ss. will watch and listen to the video in order to identify the TL, the overall idea of the dialogue in the video. (2211) Learn English Conversation Unit 6 Returning a shirt to the store - YouTube

Clarification (12-12 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, for, and pronunciation of the target language

T. shares a link on Zoom’s Chat to Google Slides presentation where Ss. read sentences using language to describe feelings. Slides 4 & 5 PPT- Ss. working in pairs read each sentence, find out the meaning of each word in bold, and drag the meaning next to the correct sentence. T. checks answers with the whole group nominating Ss. Slide 6- T. will answer it with Ss due to the functions are used by the shop assistant. Slides 7 & 8 – T. nominates Ss. To read each sentence, find out the kind of sentence, if it's simple or compound, or positive or negative , Slides 9 & 10 – Main Room working together students practice the intonation of different functions

Controlled Practice (8-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T. shares a link in Google Slides. Slide 11. T. plays an audio with dialogues. Ss. listen to the dialogues and complete the chart on slide 12. T. checks the answers with Ss.

Free Practice (6-6 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Slide 14. Ss. prepare a dialogue with their partners about a situation where they are returning back to a shop something that they bought before.

Feedback (4-5 minutes) • To inform Ss how they did in content and language

Using the Zoom's Board teacher corrects Ss. mistakes
