Upper intermediate level
To give the students practice in listening for gist,specific information and detail.
To raise the students awareness of pause fillers and repetion. To give the students practice in speaking for fluency in the context of mysterious experience sounding natural by using fillers and repetion.
Procedure (35-54 minutes)
1).I will start the lesson with a story that I've read in a newspaper to introduce the context.2). I will ask the students if they've ever heard something like that?3). I'll ask the students to look at the list of myesterious expreiences on the hangout.4).I'll ask if they've ever heard of these things before. We'll discuss it a little.
1).I will show the students the slide on the projector with TL(the vocabulary they may not be familiar with,but which they'll need while listening). 2).The students will have to match each word with it's meaning.
1) I'll explain the first task to the Students.2).They'll listen to 4 people talk about their mysterious experience.3). The students are going to match each speaker to one of the expreiences listed in the list from the warm up excerices.4). They are going to check their answers in pairs.5).After that we'll have a short feedback all together.
1).The students are going to listen to the record once again, but this time the students will have to listen carefully to be able to answer questions in ex.2,pg.51.2). Before listening I'll encourage the students to read through the task carefully.3). After listening the students are going to check answers in pairs.4). We'll have a short feedback together.
1).I'll ask students if they noticed anything special about the speech of each speaker? I'll point out that not everyone speaks perfect English all the time,not even native speaker.2).The studetns are going to do the "Language Focus" task, they will match the begining of sentences with the end. 3). After they finish the task i'm going to model each sentence,and the students will repeat after me.
1).I will ask the students to work in 3 groups (group 1,2,3). 2).The students will discuss any mysterious expreience they had in their life. 3).For their help i'll write down some questions on the board(when did it happen,who was their,why it was mysterious?) I'll encourage students to use TL more( fillers like "anyway,like,you know...") 4).After the discussion each group will tell their mysterious story to the rest of the class.
