Description

This is a listening lesson whose intention is to provide Ss with opportunities for listening practice for specific info and detail from an audio recording.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide specific information and detailed listening practice about elephants in the wild.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification for words related to elephants in the wild.

Procedure

Stage 1 Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will handout a picture with wild animals on it and ask my Ss, If you could be any wild animal, which animal would you choose?

Stage 2 Pre-teach Vocabulary (3-5 minutes) • To provide for clarification for words related to elephants in the wild.

T goes over meaning ensuring Ss understand meaning of the vocabulary words T goes over vocabulary words and drills pronunciation T goes over vocabulary words and asks Ss what type of word it is.

Stage 3 Pre-/Listening - Prediction Task (5-6 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T will show Ss a slide of elephants and ask the Ss to predict which answer is the right one before listening to the audio. I will instruct the Ss to listen for specific information about the 4 questions.

Stage 4 While-Listening #1 (5-6 minutes) • To provide students with specific information listening skills task.

I will play the audio Wild Life World to have Ss listen for specific information in regards to the prediction questions.

Stage 5 Post-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text in open feedback and expand on what they've learned.

T will discuss with Ss the correct answers from the prediction slide.

Stage 6 While-Listening (5-6 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed information listening skills task.

Replay the Wild Life World audio again and have Ss listen for deatail information. 1) The forests where elephants live are getting smaller. 2) They never go into villages on the paths. 3) They sometimes destroy peoples homes. 4) There aren't any villages in an elephant corridor. 5) The peoplle in the villages don't want to move.

Stage 7 Post-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text in open feedback and expand on what they've learned.

T will call on Ss to answer the 5 different True/False Questions and conclude the lesson. 1) True 2) False 3) True 4) True 5) False T will attempt to call on less verbal Ss who have not interacted much to discuss the answers.
