Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show slide 2. T circles picture of the chef and asks Ss, "What is his job?" (Chef) T circles picture of the teacher and asks Ss, "What is her job?" (Teacher) T circles picture of the doctor and asks Ss, "What is his job?" (Doctor) T circles picture of the radio host and asks Ss, "What his his job?" (Radio host) T circles picture of the photographer and asks Ss, "What is her job?" Show Slide 3. T asks Ss, "What is your job?" After giving Ss a chance to respond, T asks, "Do you like your job? Why or why not?"

Pre-Listening MFP (6-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Show Slide 4. T tells Ss, "Match the word in each box to the definition below. The first one has been done for you." T circles 1-B to direct Ss attention to the first word that has already been matched. T tells Ss, "Match the word in each box to the definition below. Write the answers in your notebook. 2 minutes." T tells Ss, "Check the answers with your partner. You have 2 minutes." Show Slide 5. T sends Ss to BOR to check the answers. T conducts OCFB with Ss to check for the correct answers. Show Slide 6. T circles the word "Improvement." T asks Ss, "If you make an improvement, are you making something better, or worse?" (Better) "If you make an improvement to your English, is your English better?" (Yes) T circles the word "Furniture." T asks Ss, "Is a table furniture? (Yes)" "Is a couch furniture?" (Yes) "Is a chair furniture?" (Yes) "Is a coffee cup furniture?" (No) T circles the word "Employ." T asks Ss, "Does a company employ people to do a job?" T asks Ss, "If you are tired, do you stand up on the bed, or lie down on the bed?" (If students ask or are confused about this word, T explains to Ss: "This word is a little tricky. We're not talking about "lie," like when you don't tell the truth. We're talking about when you lie down for rest. Same word, different meaning.") T circles the word "Diver." T asks Ss, "Does a diver stay on the beach, or go into the ocean?" "Does a diver swim on top of the sea, or go deep into the sea?" Show Slide 7. T asks Ss what parts of speech the words are. T explains that the noun "Improvement" also has a verb form (improve), the verb "Employ" also has a noun form (Employment), and "Diver" also has a verb form (dive). Show Slide 8. T asks Ss how many syllables "Improvement" has. T asks Ss where the stress of the word "Improvement" is. T asks Ss to repeat the word "Improvement." T repeats with the remaining words "Furniture," "Employ," "Lie," and "Diver."

While- Gist Listening Task (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

Show Slide 9. T sends link to Google Form in the chat. T tells Ss, "Everyone, click on the link in the chat. Does everyone have this form?" T shows the Google Form while screen sharing. T tells Ss, "I will play the audio. Listen and put the pictures in the order you hear them." ICQ: "What do you have to do?" T plays audio. T tells Ss, "Check the answers with your partner. You have 2 minutes." T sends Ss to breakout rooms in groups of 2 for pair checking. T monitors the BORs with camera and video turned off. T screen-shares the Google form. T circles Picture A, and asks S, "Is Picture A 1st, 2nd, or 3rd?" (3rd) T circles Picture B, and asks S, "Is Picture B 1st, 2nd, or 3rd?" (2nd) T circles Picture C and asks S, "Is Picture C 1st, 2nd, or 3rd?" (1st)

While- Listening for Detail Task (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with a more challenging detailed listening task

Show Slide 11. T sends link to Google Form in the chat. T tells Ss, "Everyone, click on the link in the chat. Do you see this form on your screen?" T shows the Google Form while screen sharing. T shows Google Form while screen sharing. "Listen again, this time more carefully. Answer these statements True, or False." ICQs: "Are you going to listen carefully?" (yes) "Are you going to answer these questions?" (yes) T tells Ss, "Check your answers with your partner. You have 3 minutes." T monitors BORs with camera and video turned off, making note of any confusion or repeated errors. Show Slide 12. T circles Sentence 1. T asks S, "Can you read this sentence?" After S reads the sentence, T asks S, "Is this True or False?" (False) After S answers, T asks S where they heard the answer. T underlines the section of text. T circles Sentence 2. T asks S, "Can you read this sentence?" After S reads the sentences, T asks S, "Is this true or false?" After S answers, T asks S where they heard the answer. T underlines the answer so everyone can see. Repeat this procedure with Sentences 3, 4, 5, and 6.

Post-Listening Productive Task (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and practice their speaking skills

Show Slide 14. T tells Ss, "Click the link in the chat box." T explains to Ss, "These are 3 questions for you to discuss with your partner." "What is the most unusual job you have heard of?" "What job would you love to have?" "What job would you hate to have?" T says, "You have 5 minutes to discuss these questions with your partner." T sends Ss to breakout rooms. T monitors BORs, making notes of any repeated errors. T asks S, "What is the most unusual job you have heard of?" "What job would you love to do?" and "What job would you hate to do?" T conducts Delayed Error Correction with any needed items noticed while monitoring BORs.
