Description

In this lesson , Ss will learn about frequency adverbs through listening and reading a text about films. The lesson starts with a short discussion about films. Then Ss will read some true false questions and listen to a cd to check their answers. Then they will practice frequency adverbs through controlled grammar activities and a free speaking activity.

Main Aims

  • To practice adverbs of frequency for our regular actions in the context of world cinema.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practice frequency adverbs through controlled exercises and a speaking activity

Procedure

Warm Up. (4-5 minutes) • To set the context of film

T asks about cinema and films. T asks Do you like watching films or going to the cinema? Do you have any idea about world cinema? Have you ever seen a Chinese film? Have you ever seen an Indian film? T shows some pictures of the world cinema. Then asks which country do you think makes the majority of the films?

Listening for specific information (4-5 minutes) • To listen for a specific detail.

Before listening Ss will read four True False questions to understand what they are going to listen for. Then they will listen and decide whether the statements are True or false. Then in pairs Ss will check their answers. After that T will give them the script of the audio. They will read it and check their answers again.

Presentation of grammar points. (7-8 minutes) • To get the usage of frequency adverbs.

T shows some pictures and tries to elicit 'every year, once, twice, three times, how often..' T shows Madonna's photo and asks How often do you think she does sports? Does she do sports ever day? Then T shows a picture of a fat woman and again asks some questions. Does she do sports once a month or a year? T shows picture of some healthy and unhealthy teeth. Asks about "How often does Mary brush her teeth? T elicits three times a week.How often does Sue brush her teeth?Ss will say never or once a month. T will write sample sentences on the board showing meaning and usage of frequency adverbs.

Doing exercises (4-6 minutes) • To practise TL.

T will give Ss handouts. For this exercise Ss will first individually write the answers to the questions. Then they will check their answers with their partners.Then in pairs they will replace the underlined words with the frequency adverbs.

A listening Activity (5-6 minutes) • to practice TL through listening

Ss will listen to the cd to make sentences. First Ss do this exercise alone then in pairs they will check their answers.

Find someone who... (5-6 minutes) • To practise adverbs of frequency by asking questions.

T will give Ss a sheet. Students will stand up asks each other some questions to find who does something in a certain frequency. Ss will write the names of the Ss. Then they will ask each other questions based on this information. e.g. Who does sports three times a week?...

an activity (3-5 minutes) • to make Ss produce sentences related to TL.

T will stick some pieces of papers of words or phrases on the board. T will ask Ss to make correct sentences about themselves by putting the words in the correct order.

A speaking activity (4-5 minutes) • To practise adverbs of frequency by asking questions and answering some questions related to daily activities.

T will write four questions on the board. In groups Ss will discuss them. they will ask and answer these questions. How often do you go to the cinema? Do you talk during the film. What day do you go? Who do you usually go with?
