#5a My Kind of Place

In this lesson, Ss focus on speaking in the context of places in a town or in the country. This lesson will begin with a vocabulary based Lead-In followed by a WC demonstration on the WB of verb form and vocabulary. The lesson will end with Ss sharing about their favorite places in PW and finally to the WC.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of places

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide writing practice and utilization of lexis in the context of favorite places.


Lead-in (8-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students in vocabulary

Ss will complete a cross word puzzle using the vocabulary Ss have learned in previous LPs. This activity will be used to engage the students and serve as a word bank for the following exercise. WC FB will ensure the answers are correct.

Exposure (10-12 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases through listening

I will utilize an overhead projection picture of Alaska, Cairo, Denver and Barcelona. I will use this picture to demonstrate the uses of, "There is," "There isn't," "There aren't," and "There are" with the WC.

Useful language (10-12 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Ss will receive clarification on vocabulary that will be used in the next productive exercise. The focus will be on adjectives that will be added to the nouns used in the previous exercise. MFP will be used to introduce and CCQ's will be used to check Ss comprehension.

Productive Task (10-12 minutes) • To provide a semi-controlled opportunity for Ss to practice the target productive skill speaking.

Ss will use PW to speak to each other about their favorite place to live. Ss will speak using "There isn't," "There is," "There are," and "There aren't." For WC FB Ss will communicate with the teacher using one sentence about their favorite place to live.

Feedback and error correction (2-4 minutes) • To provide feedback on Ss' production and use of language.

Ss will correct sentences on the WB that have errors.
