In this lesson students work on speaking and reading relating to changing careers. Students review the present perfect simple versus continuous.

  • To enable students to extend their lexical range in the context of career changes.
  • To enable students to practice reading for gist and detail in the context of a text about career changes.

Procedure

Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Work in groups. Look at the images. How do you think the lives of the two people have changed? Was the change positive or negative?

While-Reading 1: Gist (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading tasks
