  • To provide gist and inference reading practice using a text about I miss my friends in the context of travel

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of requests and offers in the context of would you like? and modals

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- T greets Ss - T brngs up the topic of Itihad and Ahli football club. - T asks Ss if they like traveling.

Exposure (15-20 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

- T asks Ss if they have traveled? - T makes Ss share their stories about traveling. - T asks Ss if they felt homesick when they were abroad (out Saudi)

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

- T highlights the difference between requests and offers

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

- T clarifies the use of articles such as (a,an and the)

Controlled Practice (10-20 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

- T sends Ss to breakout rooms to discuss and answer activity 1 - T monitors silently - Ss discuss their answer in the main room

Semi-Controlled Practice (10-20 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

- T elicits ( requests and offers ) - T drills the words with Ss - T asks CCQ to check meaning

Free Practice (10-20 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

- Ss practice speaking in the context of traveling in pairs - T focuses on the instructions - T monitors while Ss interview each other - T discusses with Ss their answers - T corrects any vocabulary they have just learnt - T might get involved in the activity in the end
