TP 7 Writing - Postcard

Description

In this lesson, students will practice writing a (short) postcard to a friend. Students will start with a lead-in that will set context followed by a sample writing they will read. Students will cover MFP of the sample letter and then be asked to write their own. Students will get feedback from their peers followed by feedback through DEC.

Main Aims

  • To introduce and provide practice of writing a (short) postcard to a friend

Subsidiary Aims

  • Increase student lexis around the context of traveling and speaking about their experience. Increase grammar of verb tenses.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Prior to sharing the lead-in, T. will build rapport with Ss. & T. will share with Ss. the aim of the lesson. (1 min) T. will share on Zoom a Google Slide. Google slide with an image of postcards. The question for Ss. will be given in OCFB what the image is and if they have ever written one. (1min) The next slide will ask Ss. What do you talk about when you tell your friends about your travels? Ss. will go into breakout rooms and T. will give a demo prior to sending Ss.' out. (2 min PW)

Exposure (2-3 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

T. will share the Word document on screen and ask students to read the letter. . (2 min) Ask Ss. through CCQs the gist of the letter.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T. will continue to share documents and ask Ss. to take a moment and look at the sections. And then in OCFB match the sections of the letter. (1 IW + 1 min OCFB) T. will ask Ss, to into breakout rooms to go over the meaning and verb tenses(2 min PW) T. will then ask Ss. to share answers in OCFB. (2 min) T. will ask students individually to read the sentences out loud and correct pronunciation. (2 min)

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

T. will share Word Document and assign the pages to Ss. and ask them to write a postcard to a friend about a place they visited. (20 min IW) T. will monitor Ss. whilst writing.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T. will ask Ss. to do peer feedback with a checklist provided for them. (7 min) T. will do some DEC of some of the letters in the document. (3 min)
