Description

This lesson will be directed at practicing the meaning and productive skills associated with adverbs of meaning.

Materials

No materials added to this plan yet.

Main Aims

  • To teach productive skills related with adverbs of meaning.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practice the meaning, form, and pronunciation of adverbs of meaning

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

For my lead-in, I will share my screen to show a Google slide that asks how your actions change depending on where you are or the situation that you're in. There are two examples: talking at the library vs at a sporting event and driving when you're late vs when you're just running errands.

Test #1 (5-5 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

I will ask the students to answer the questions about the two situations and give a situation of their own. This will still be done while sharing my screen of the Google slide and will take place in open class discussion

Teach (13-13 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

After the initial test stage, I will share my screen with a Google jamboard that contains the MFP of adverbs of manner. I will have three sentences employing adverbs of manner and we will analyze the sentences to determine the typical way to create adverbs of meaning and their placement in a sentence. We will go over which part of the sentence is the verb and which is the adverb of manner.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

I will send the students a link to a passage I have created that contains sentences which need to be changed to include an adverb of manner. I will send students to breakout rooms and give them 6 minutes to change the sentences so that they use adverbs of manner correctly. Afterwards we will discuss in OCFB.

Free practice (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will share my Google slide again, this time on a slide instructing students to think of four questions and answers that involve adverbs of manner. I will send the students to breakout rooms to come up with their questions and answers and then we will return to discuss in OCFB. Following this we will have a brief DEC stage to go over any errors I noticed in the breakout room discussions.
