Checking understanding and clarifying

Description

In this lesson, students learn a few expressions used to check understanding and clarifying. The lesson starts with a test where students rearrange a dialogue. This is followed by an explanation of the different kinds of expressions used in different situations. The students are given another test to check they comprehended the concept. Finally, they role play a situation using the expressions they learned.

Procedure

Test #1 (3-5 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

T sends a link to a google drive slides presentation where ss are asked to rearrange a dialogue . Ss are sent to BOR to do the task in pairs. Ss discusses their answers in group.

Teach (10-15 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

T sends a link to a google slides presentation where ss are asked to classify a few expressions into three groups according to their meaning. Ss are sent to BOR to work in pairs or in groups to do the task. T conducts OCFB. T provides a model answer. Ss are asked to match each expression to its correct form. T nominates ss to answer the question. T nominates ss to read each expression using the correct stress pattern.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

T sends a link to a google slide presentation where ss are asked to do another test. Ss are sent to BOR to do the test in pairs. Ss check their answers in group. T conducts OCFB. T gives model answer.

Free practice (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

T sends a link to a google slides presentation where ss are given a situation. Ss are sent to BOR to role play a certain situation using the expressions they learned. T listens to what they say.

DEC (3-5 minutes) • To give feedback on their speaking

T writes down some errors that were made by ss when speaking. T helps ss correct their mistakes.
