Description

In this lesson, students will learn and practice the fundamentals of Present Simple in the context of their daily routines. They will be given open class practices on TL by cross questioning techniques.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide review and practice of Present Simple in the context of daily routine of learners

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of daily work and communication

Procedure

Warmer/Lead in (8-10 minutes) • To set the lesson context and engage students

T commences the class with an activity named "The Ball game". In this activity, Ss will sit in a circle with a ball passing to each other. A background music score will be played during the ball passing time. As the music stops, the person holding the ball will pick up a clue card kept in front of him. It will have a question on their daily life activity. He will read the question aloud and answer it. The game progresses for the other Ss as well. T: "So we will play a game "The Ball game" "We need to pass the ball as music plays" "The person holding it will come and read the question aloud and answer it" "For example: "How many times do you brush your teeth?" (aloud) "I brush my teeth two times a day"

Presentation (4-5 minutes) • To exemplify the concepts of Present Simple by adducing reasonable examples and eliciting answers.

T revises the concepts of Present Simple with a Slide Show presentation. The Slides consists of questions which T will elicit from the Ss. T: "Lets revise the concepts of Simple present" "Mary____up early in the morning" "So what's the answer" "Yeah that's right" "Mary wakes/gets up early in the morning"

Practice Session#1 (Controlled Practice) (8-10 minutes) • To boost up confidence among learners to construct simple sentences using "Jigsaw Activity"

T arranges an activity called the "Jigsaw". Ss will be divided into groups of three. T will distribute some cut pieces of photos with some sentences. Ss have to arrange the photographs and match suitable sentences with the pictures. T: "You need to arrange the pictures and match with the sentences given" "For example:" "See this picture" "So the correct sentence will be: "He is tall" "So lets start"

Practice Session#2 (Semi-controlled practice) (9-10 minutes) • To provide an extensive practice in Present simple with reading lessons

T introduces a picture in the class and ask Ss about the picture. T elicits few answers and then distribute HO containing some information about Lesley's daily life. T then distributes some HOs containing questions related to Lesley. T limits the time to answer the questions and ask to check with their partners. T elicits answers from students. T: "Who is she?" "Is she a teacher"? "is she from London"? "Ok so lets read about lesley today" T distributes HOs followed by questions about her.

Practice Session#3 (Semi-controlled practice) (8-10 minutes) • To make the learners aware of few new vocabulary words regarding daily routine by the game "Hangman"

T introduces an activity named "Electronic Hangman". T divides the Ss in groups of two. T asks students to guess the words in a sentence of Present Simple form. T will allocate point 1 for each group. The highest point receiver is the winner. T: "We will play a game called "hangman". "You have to guess the word from the letters" "The team getting the highest points is the winner".

Practice Session#4 (Listening) (4-5 minutes) • To introduce the learners with the form of Present Simple in audio songs.
