Main Aims

  • To provide practice of family lexis in the context of People around you.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of People around you.


Warmer/Lead-in (6 minutes) • To show some pictures and engage students in the topic.

1- The teacher greets students and asks them how they are doing. 2- The teacher shows some pictures related to Family members. " Could you tell me what do you see here in these pictures? 3- Teacher asks students: What the relationship between these pictures. " OK, what is the relationship between these pictures? Are they friends? relatives? or what? 4- The Teacher puts Ss in pairs and talks about their family. " Now Work in pairs and tell your partner about your family." 5- The Teacher opens class discussion and asks every group about his partner's family. " could you tell me about your partner's family members? "

Test #1 (6 minutes) • To test and gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

1- Contributes Habdouts activity1 to Ss. 2- ask Ss to check their dictionary and search for the meaning of the words individually. " Now, in our first activity, I want you to check your dictionary to check the meaning in the Handout." 3- ask ICQs to check their understanding of the instructions. " Now, will you search for the meaning of the vocabulary or guess the meaning?" 4- Ss work in pairs to check any of the words they are unsure about. " OK, guys. work in pairs and check the meaning with your partner.

Teach (15 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage.

1- Elicit the Vocabulary meaning from Ss. " Could you tell me the meaning of the word ...? " 2- Write the words on the board and asks Ss about the form. " Is this word N, V, or adj? " 3- ask Ss about the stress syllable. " Could you tell me where is the stress here? " 4- drills pronunciation with Ss. " Repeat after me, please ... this group .. this group ." Lovely. 5- ask CCQs to assure the meaning of the words. 1- If your mother and father divorce, your father can later marry a different woman. That woman becomes your stepmother. If you marry someone, that person's mother becomes your "mother-in-law". 2- "My sister's son is called Tim. He is my nephew." "My sister's daughter is called Mary. She is my niece."

Test #2 (8 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test.

1- contribute Handouts and ask Ss: " Now in this activity, you will compare between the following words, work individually". 2- Ss work in pairs: "Check your answers with your partner". 3- Open class discussion: "Could you tell me the first one..the second..?"

Free practice (10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language.

1- contribute pictures to Ss. 2- ask Ss to " In this activity, every one of you will have 3 flashcards of family members, you will describe each picture to your partner without telling him/her the title of the picture". 3- Ask ICQs: Now, will you talk about your family or describe family members to your partner? will you tell your partner about family member's titles? will your partner guess the title meaning? Ss answer: Yes.
