Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of the present perfect tense in the context of books and movies
  • To provide practice of past participles in the context of books and
  • To provide gist listening practice using a text about two people planning to watch a movie in the context of books and movies

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a pair work in the context of books and movies

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

First of all,I'd show my students some pictures related to some books and movies and ask them whether they've seen/read them or not. After they answered my questions,I'd give them a handout to fill that contains the same questions. At last,I'll share my personal answers with them on the board so they comprehend context easily.

Pre-Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I'd use mini boards in this stage.I'd give each student a mini board and ask them to listen and write down their main ideas. For example:What are their plans for tonight? After this part, the students change their mini boards with each other. Now,I'll put a stick note on their mini boards and ask them to write down what their friends have missed. Then, the mini boards come back to their first writer and all of the students listen and check their answers again.

While-Listening #1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening task

In this stage,I'd use a sentence completion task.I'd write the text of the listening and blank some sentences which the students will listen and complete individually. At last,I'd show them the correct answers on the board.

While-Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening task

In this stage,I'd ask my students to work in pairs.I'd ask them to write down a conversation similar to the one they heard.(each pair will have a board/face wall)Basically I'd tell them to make plans for tonight to watch a movie together. After that,I'd ask them to move around the class and read their friends conversation

Post-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

In this stage,I'd work on sentence stress-simple past and past participle form of verbs and somehow review all the target language through tasks.
