Description

In this lesson, students will be provided with listening practice for gist and specific information within the context of teamwork.

Materials

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review of colleague, morale, ideal, collaborate in the context of the perfect team.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

-T will provide Ss with a Jamboard where they will post their response to two questions: 1. What makes a perfect team? 2. What kind of personalities help to create a perfect team. -Ss will have 2 minutes to respond to the questions and discuss their response in breakout rooms. -After 2 minutes, T will bring Ss back to the main room where Ss will have the opportunity to share out their responses.

Pre-teach vocabulary (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-T will provide Ss with a Jamboard of four words in order to cover meaning, form, and pronunciation. -First, the students will make a copy of the page. Next, they will individually complete the Jamboard and match the MFP for each word - 2 minutes -Next, Tt will review the MFP and go over each word while providing Ss the opportunity to share their responses - 5 to 6 minutes MEANING CCQs: - Read sentence: “I am not sure what this means, but I know my colleague can help you with this. T asks Ss: Who is going to help you with the problem? Do you work with them at the same job? - After defeating the Germans in the Ardennes, morale was very high amongst the American soldiers. T asks Ss: Who am I talking about in this sentence? What did they do? Did they win or lose? Do they feel happy or sad? -This size vehicle is ideal for driving in the city. T asks Ss: Was the car good or bad? Would it be good to use outside of the city, or best to use in the city? -The students were asked to collaborate with each other in order to complete a group project about climate change. T asks Ss: Were the students asked to work individually or in groups? Do they have to work together on a project? FORM -What are these words (colleague, morale, ideal, and collaborate)? Are they a noun, verb, or adjective? PRONUNCIATION -Drill & Practice: T will tell Ss, "Please repeat after me." -How many syllables does this word have? (For each word) -Where is the word stress (For each word)

While-Listening #1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

-T will tell the Ss that they will be listening to a lecture about the four ideas that make up the perfect team for their audio activity. -T will tell Ss they are going to listen to just to get the general idea of the activity. - Ss will individually listen for gist on a Google Form and answer the gist question - 4 minutes -The Ss will check their answers in pairs/small groups - 1 minute -Open Class Feedback (OCFB): The T will review the answers and have the students share out their responses - 4 minutes

While-Listening #2 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

-Ts will tell the Ss that they will be listening to the same audio again for specific details. - T will instruct Ss to listen carefully for specific information and answer question on a Google Form - 6 minutes -Ss will check the answers in pairs/groups before OCFB - 2 minutes -Open Class Feedback (OCFB): The T will review the answers and have the students share out their responses - 4 minutes

Post-Listening (5-7 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the listening activities and expand on what they've learned

-T will post a question to the students via the Zoom chat: Think about teams you have been to. How did the members of the team fit into the categories described? T will have students "Popcorn" around the class so that everyone has a chance to speak.

Post-Delayed Error Correction (DEC) (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with feedback on the task

-T will provide Ss feedback on language use during the task through discussion and posting some examples on a Jamboard.
