Description

In this lesson students will talk about their flats, what rooms do they have and what kind of things are in the rooms. Teacher will introduce some new words (MFP) and during the speaking exercises students will practice to use TL

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of vocabulary related to the things in the house (rooms, furniture).

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy in speaking practice in the context of things in the house

Procedure

Lead - in (4-5 minutes) • To introduce the context of the lesson

On WB picture of a flat and a man Ali Ali bought a new flat in Kadikoy, Moda. He has 3 rooms and a kitchen. But they are totally empty. Now Ali needs to go to IKEA and by many things for his flat. 3 teams - write a list of things Ali needs to buy. 2 mins on WB team 1-2-3 WCFB - Team 1 reads first word. if other teams don't have it - point for team 1 T follows the list and marks which words from LA list were mentioned by students. T won't concentrate on them in later stages

Test 1 (5-7 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge about the things in the house

Chest HO1 Match pictures with words PW-check WCFB - match pictures with words in WB T makes notes about the words that S were not familiar with and made mistakes

Vocabulary (4-5 minutes) • Pre-teach new vocabulary related to the things in the house

As S in the previous activity have matched words with pictures, all the needed material is on the WB T checks pronunciation of all the words once. After that removes the words from the board that are known for the students and there is no problem with pronunciation. T drills the words that s have difficulty in pronouncing. T clarifies meaning on the words that are unclear for S with the help of a picture or CCQ Anticipated words: Cupboard In which room is a cupboard? Kitchen What do we put in a cupboard? (cups, tea, coffee) Wardrobe In which room is a wardrobe? Bedroom What do we put in a wardrobe? Clothes

Test 2 (5-6 minutes) • To practice using the correct form of the new vocabulary

T takes all pictures and words from WB chest HO2 finish the words PW - check WCFB - Ss come and write answers on WB

Spoken practice (10-15 minutes) • To practice speaking the TL

T shows example of a flat plan Draw your flat plan, the rooms, some things in the rooms. Talk to your partner about your flat. Use these questions (HO3) to help you Demo S switches partners couple of times. T monitors WCFB - T asks couple of students about other students' flats Delayed error correction - T writes a bad sentence and asks Ss to correct it

Spoken practice 2 (5-7 minutes) • To practice speaking the TL

HO4 Demo There are two pictures. One-house, two-room.Do not show a picture to your partner. One student asks questions. He has to guess where is the house and what kind of house is in the picture number 1. what kind of room and what is in that room in picture 2. Later another s asks questions about different picture. "Is the house in Ankara? Is it old, big, beautiful?" "Is it a living room, kitchen?" "Is there a table, couch?" T monitors. Collects mistakes WCFB - T asks S about the houses. Delayed error correction

IF time (5-6 minutes) • To practice meaning of the TL

PW HO5 1 S describes a word and 2 S has to guess it.
