This is a speaking lesson using phrases for managing conversations as the main lesson goal. Ss will focus on practicing these phrases depending each situation

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency in the context of managing conversations

  • To develop listening skills and respond to different points of view
  • To provide accuracy in the context of agreeing or disagreeing about topics

Procedure

Lead-in (5-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students.

INSTRUCTIONS: What do you do to stay healthy? Discuss with your partners. BOR / 3min DEMO: T gives one or two examples: Eating healthy, good sleeping habits, etc. T gives instructions and sends ss to BOR. T elicits suggestions from students, adds them to Google Form (1min)

Content Preparation (6-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the content of the task

INSTRUCTIONS: From the document list or ideas you mentioned, in teams choose the best 2 in order to stay fit and choose the worst 2 to stay out of shape DEMO: T does first item on list. Elicits answer from Ss T gives link to ss of form (with suggestions from lead-in) T shows answers then OCFB (2 min) T elicits from ss why they choose those options

Language Preparation (6-7 minutes) • To infer the meaning from context and clarify the form and pronunciation of the language needed for the task.

INSTRUCTIONS: In teams, add the correct phrases for each category. 3 min DEMO: T demos first item by eliciting the answer from the students T gives link to the jamboard Form to ss. T shows answer key OCFB FORM T shows slide and elicits the differences between the different types of phrases. OCFB PRONUNCIATION T shows slide T elicits from ss stressed word in sentences. T goes over unique and difficult features of each sentence. T models, then whole class drill. T elicits pronunciation from individual ss.

Speaking (19-21 minutes) • To provide opportunity to practice speaking fluency and expand on what’s been learned.

INSTRUCTIONS: Group work. Teacher instructs SS to work in groups and discuss: Do you agree or disagree with this food pyramid? (image shown in a doc) In order to keep the conversation going they should ask follow up questions. DEMO: T demos one or two sentences students could us in the context: "I suppose you’re right because..." T asks one or two learners to ask questions SPEAKING PART 2: Teacher now asks them what Ss would add or remove from the food pyramid or what's their ideal food layer structure.

Feedback & DEC (4-6 minutes) • To provide learners with feedback and inform them of how they did with regards to content and language used.
