Description

In this lesson students will practice their listening skills. They will revise household objects by reading and speaking activities in the context of travelling. They will also practice asking questions.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and specific information listening practice using a text about Household objects in the context of Travel

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a Role play in the context of Trave and houses

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students with speaking activity.

-Introduce the words "Travel" and "Traveller" by acting out and elicit the anwers. CCQ: ask them questions and check if they understand the meening of those words.(see in language analyses) WB: write 4 questions one by one on the board? Do you travel? Are you a real traveller? Where do you stay? Do you want to stay in somebody else's house in another country? -First write one question and ask one or two students Then write second question and one or two students Finally after you write all the questions on the board let them discuss in pairs.

Pre-Reading/Listening (3-6 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

-Stick "couchsurfing" logo on the board Ask what can it be -WB: Draw a mindmap, elicit answers and write the answers around the logo. Give small people pictures to the students and draw a world on the board.(If you can find globe use it.) Ask them where do they go if they travel. Let them stick their pictures around the world. Now tell them that they are a kind of Couchsurfers.

Pre-Reading/Listening (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students with reading activity.

-WB Write : contact? Where? How many? How old? -HO1 Give HO1 and let them quess and write. -ICQ: use your gestures; Guess and ? -HO2 Give HO2. Let them read and find if their answers are correct or not. Feedback:The answer key is below the page. (fold the answer key beforehand and Don't let them open!)

While-Reading/Listening #1 (2-4 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist listening tasks.

-Gist: Listen one time and find out who is talking. Beth or Clare. Feedback WC

While-Reading/Listening #2 (5-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks.

Give Half A4 they listen the same text and list the household objects they hear. If they can't write all of them for the first time let them listen more(maxsimum 3 times) Feedback: Check in pairs.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity with semi-controlled speaking.

Role Play -demonstarte: choose a students. She/he is the host and you are the traveller. Give a room picture. Ask her/him questions about her/his room. -Divide the students into 2 groups. 1st: travellers 2nd:hosts -give room pictures to the hosts. Travellers will ask different questions to find which room is the best room for them. (they can ask the questions on the board by changing the household objects.) WB: Write couple of modal sentences on the board so that they can help the students. Do you have a sofa? Is there a tv in your living room? How many pillows have you got? Is your sofa comfortable? ICQ: Are you doctors? (travellers-hosts) Do you ask about the room picture or about her real room?

Delayed Error Correction (2-5 minutes) • To provide students the correct answers of the errors in speaking task.

Delayed Error Correction -Observe the students while they are on the speaking task. -Note their mistakes in asking questions. -Write them on the board. -Ask them what is wrong. -by using your gestures correct the error. Repeat the correct answers couple of times. First choral drilling then individual drilling.
