Description

In this TP, Ss will know a few phrasal verbs with the word, look, starting with a description task for lead-in, followed by a conversation as gist task. To cover MFP before a controlled practice on which Ss will decide which collocation is correct on a given sentence, at the end of the lesson T will provide feedback.

Main Aims

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of collocations with the word 'look'

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will give a brief description of a famous person, Ss will use their previous vocabulary and description skills to guess the person the T is talking about.

Presentation through text (4-6 minutes) • To let Ss know the usage of phrasal verbs

T will show four sentences, Ss will have to read the sentences and try to guess the meaning, T will provide immediate feedback on the meaning.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

T will show four examples of collocations with the word 'look', with these sentences as an example, T will cover the meaning, form and pronunciation on each sentence, using CCQs to provide the correct understanding of the collocations.

Controlled Practice (8-11 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

T will provide an exercise on which Ss will have to fill the gaps with the correct phrase containing the verb 'look', after answering Ss will have few inutes to discuss their answers, feedback is given at the end of practice.

Free Practice (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ss will make up sentences given with the previou collocations they worked on to share their ideas, T can provide templates as examples.
