Description

In this lesson, sts learn about the ways to avoid repeating words while writing a paragraph. The lesson starts with a discussion about a sample paragraph that has repetition in it. There also some controlled practice through sentence reformulation and free practice via writing a descriptive paragraph.

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of language used for avoiding repetition

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of a a descriptive paragraph in the context of concert,play or film

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Sts will be asked some questions like - What can make an article annoying ? -What happens when we have many words with the same meaning in a sentence?

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Sts will read a sample paragraph to find the repetitive words

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Sts will watch a video that explains how to avoid repetition and discuss

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Sts will be divided into two different groups related to their different learning levels. Both groups will complete a dialogue to complete the conversation. They will use only one word in each space to avoid repeating nouns and verbs that have been used previously. Differently one group will have the words to choose from a box.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Sts will describe a concert, play or film that they went to in the past by avoiding repetition in their paragraph.
