Description

In this lesson students will learn nouns related to things that we like and dislike.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of Nouns related to things you like or dislike: Shopping, Reading, Cooking, Italian food, Fast food, Animals in the context of hobbies.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide deduction reading practice using a text about Likes and dislikes in the context of meeting new people

Procedure

Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will show students a picture of two people meeting eachother for the first time and I would ask students: "Do you like to meet new people?" After that I will ask them what kind of questions they ask when they meet new people, after they give me some ideas I will divide them in pairs and ask them to brainstorm questions to ask soemone you meet for the first time.

Presentation through the text (6-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I will give students a short conversation between a man a a women where both of them are talking about the things they like and dislike. under that text they will have an activity where they have to put what each character likes or dislikes.

Clarification (15-18 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Meaning: I will give students a fill in the gap activity where they have to complete sentences with the vocabulary in pairs. Every sentence has an image to help with this. After that I will perform CCQs with each word: Shopping Do you go shopping at shchool or in the mall? IN THE MALL Do you need money for shopping? YES Reading Do you read a book or a video? A BOOK Do you usually read in the pool or in a library? IN A LIBRARY Cooking Do you cook in the kitchen or the bedroom? IN THE KITCHEN Do you cook using food or computers? FOOD Italian food Is italian food from Mexico? NO Is Spagheti Italian food? YES Fast food Is hamburguer fast food? YES Is soup fast food? NO Animals Are Cats and dogs animals? YES Are politicians animals? NO Form. For this I will write 2 sentences and they have to choose which one is correct. After some time they check in pairs. Then I perform some CCQs to clarify form. Is like follow by the base form of the verb or verb with ing? VERB WITH ING Is the verb first or the noun first in the sentence? THE VERB FIRST Pronunciation. For this section I will create a chart with different kinds of stress patterns and tell students to put the word in the correct pronunciation pattern. Then I will do peer check and drilling.

Controlled Practice (4-6 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

I will show students a Jamboard where thet have to match the pictures with the nouns. After they have done it in pairs they will peer check.

Free Practice (4-6 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

For this activity I will present students with 4 questions: What things do you like? What things do you love? What things don't you like? What things do you hate?

Delayed Error correction (2-4 minutes) • To provide feedback on vocabulary

I will do a student centered correction based on mistakes done in the freer practice
