Description

In this lesson, students will learn the TL of Present Simple Affirmative . Also, they will be able to talk about themselves.

Main Aims

  • To provide practice and clarification of the present simple ( affirmative) in the context of work

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a text in the context of Introducing ourselves and others.

Procedure

Grammar: present simple ( affirmative ). (7-9 minutes) • To add s or ( es) to the verb in the present simple after he, she, or it.

I divide the sts into pairs and ask them to research the texts and find the verbs go, live, and work in the text. Monitor and help. When sts have found all the verbs. Ask if they can complete the rule. After he, she, it add ....... to the verb in the present simple. Also I ask some students the following questions: 1-Where do you live, Elif ? I live in Istanbul. Where Does Elif? She lives in Istanbul. 2- Where do you work, Shawakat? I work in ............ Where does Shawkat work? He works in.......................... 3- How do you go to work, Zeki? I go to work by train. He goes to work by train.

Test# 1 (7-9 minutes) • To give sts more further exposure to the third person / adding s after he, she, it.

I write sentence in the present simple tense without s. I ask students to put s or es when necessary. I ask them to work individually first. Then they share with their partners, and then with the whole class for feedback and correction. I stick the sentences on the WB, and I stick S on the board asking the sts to stick in the right place if necessary.

Ex. 2 Sts choose the correct option. Do the first as an example. They can compare their answers with a partner before they check with the whole class. Ex. 3 Sts complete the text. Do the first as an example.They can compare their answers with a partner before they check with the whole class.

Speaking/ Introduce yourself (5 minutes) • To introduce themselves

Ask sts to write a short text about themselves. Tell them to base it on the texts in reading exercise 1, but remember to change from he/she/it to I. Write on the board: I am ............. / I live in .................... / I live with.................... / I am a ................/ I work in ........................... / I go to .................. by ..............

Speaking/ Introduce yourself (10-12 minutes) • To introduce themselves

Ask sts to tell their partner about themselves. Then change pairs, and ask sts to tell their new partners about their old partners. Then they change pairs again. Monitor and prompt. Make sure sts add s to the verb. Take note of errors for delayed feedback.ask a few students about to tell the class about people they spoke to.

Controlled Speaking Activity/ Introduce yourself (5-7 minutes) • Delayed Feedback

After taking notes, I write the common errors on the WB. I ask sts to read them and correct them by themselves. I correct the errors and clarify the sentences.
