Description

In this lesson, students learn about literary terms through guided discovery based on a short story of "Cinderella". This lesson starts with a discussion about the literary terms. This is followed by applying on "Cinderella". Finally there are some controlled practice and free practice activities.

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about "Cinderella"

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Oral discussion about animation. What's your favorite animation?

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Show the student a power point presentation about Cinderella to make sure that the students will be able to apply the literary terms. Let them explain what's in the power point and elicit more information about Cinderella.

Clarification (15-20 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Show the student the literary terms and let them guess its meaning. Let them elicit more information about the literary terms. Finally let them apply it for Cinderella story. Example: What's the meaning of the sitting? What's the sitting of Cinderella?

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Divide the students into teams. Give each team a picture from Cinderella to decide what's the part of the plot? Is it Exposition, Conflict, Climax or Resolution?

Free Practice (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Divide the students in two team, one of them will have the literary terms and the other team will have their definitions. Finally they have to match the term by its definition.
