Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson, students will be practiced Reading for gist and specific information using an article.

Subsidiary Aims

  • students will practice speaking for fluency.

Procedure

Lead-in & Setting Context: (8 minutes) • to create interest in the topic and make students engage.

1- To create an interesting story about my leisure time, then asks " How do you spend your free time?" 2- Ss work in pairs. 3- T monitors to check that Ss are discussing.

Pre-Reading. (6 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible.

1- Give Ss handouts activity and work individual, using their mini-dictionary. 2- Ss work in pairs to check any of the words they are unsure about. 3- T drills the vocabulary items by making the stressed syllables on the board. 4- Ask CCQs to assure Ss' understanding.

While-Reading. ( Reading for gist). (3 minutes) • To let the students skimming the text to practice reading for gist.

1- Distributes the text handout without the title. 2- T asks ss to skim the text and guess the most suitable title for the text. 3- Ss work individually. 4- Ss work in pairs and discuss answers. 5- T monitors to help in need. 6- Open class discussion, T elicits some answers.

Second Reading. (Reading for specific information). (6 minutes) • To let students scanning to develop a higher level of understanding for the text.

1- Ask Ss to read the article again and write the country each next to each statement as appropriate. 2- Ss read. 3- Ss work in pairs to check their answers. 4- Check answers with the whole class.

Follow-up activity. (22 minutes) • To give Ss a chance to practice speaking.

1- Distribute the activity handout. 2- Ss discuss the questions in pairs or small groups. 3- finish off by asking each group to tell the class the most interesting/unusual thing heard.
