Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will show my Ss the following 2 questions with some pictures. Can you think of an example for each? 1. A great step forward in human rights 2. A ‘basic’ scientific advance that we couldn’t live without.. I will ask Ss to discuss these questions in pairs in BreakOut rooms. Pre-Reading/Listening (3-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I will ask my Ss to match the word with the correct definition and form. I take the time to use the private chat from S to S before OCFB. 1. His performance was OUTSTANDING. It was so attractive. CCQ: Was his performance exceptional, or usual? 2. I really ADMIRE the way she brings up those kids all on her own. CCQ: Do "I" look up to her, or dislike her? Form, Pronunciation I will elicit forms from Ss. While-Reading/Listening #1 (5-8 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

I will tell my Ss that they will hear an audio to get the general idea of the text. I play the beginning part of the audios for Ss to get the main ideas. I let Ss check answers in pairs. While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Ss listen a second time and complete 3 questions as they listen. I monitor Ss to see if the audio needs to be replayed. If time is running out, I let my Ss to use the private chat. If not, I will make BreakOut rooms before OCFB. https://forms.gle/7ncxbDxR1r6yZHjp8

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Speaking task. I will put following two more questions on the chat box. 1. Which of these achievements do you find most/least amazing? Why do you think so? 2. What is the biggest achievement in your life? Why? 3. What will be the human achievement in the future? Why? Ss will discuss the contents of the text in BreakOut rooms.
