Description

In this lesson , ss learn different words for people (jobs),then they will practice an exercise using these word forms . Then word forms will be clarified using drilling , pronunciation ,and then writing forms clarifying word stress .Then demonstrate through a speaking activity about themselves , speak about role-models using different human traits .

Materials

Abc Lead-in ; a google picture
Abc Lead-in ; a google picture / stage 2: hand out + answer key / stage 3 ; handout + answer key .

Main Aims

  • By the end of this lesson , ss will be aware of different word forms for people ( jobs ) , they will be able to pronounce them and know word stress related to the words .

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practice speaking about jobs through describing role- models in their lives using different human traits .

Procedure

Stage 1: Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set a a lesson context and engage ss through asking CCQs .To set lesson context and engage students

Show ss a picture of a boy who is sitting on a desk and pretending he is working in an office . Then ask ss CCQs : 1) What is this boy holding in his hands ? (a phone , a pen and a paper ) 2)Is he really working ? ( No) 3) Then what is he doing ? Then elicit from the ss that the boy is just pretending of working in an office . (dream job ). Tell ss about my dream to become a doctor. Then ask ss to speak about themselves what were their dream jobs when they were young .they can work in pairs ,then one from each pair can speak about her friend's dream job .

Stage 2 : Test # 1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

Ask ss to solve a hand-out in Page : 53 . They should do it individually , then check the answer with his/her pair . Then show answer key on projector .

Stage 3 : clarification (15-20 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

Go to the answer key words ; paying attention to meaning , pronunciation and form by giving examples of each job with a well known person ( mostly Egyptian ) .

Stage 4 : Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Clarify the word air hostess, journalist ,pilot , then give ss a handout ( an exercise of matching jobs with their definitions ) . They should solve it individually , they can check in pairs ,then show answer key on the projector .

Stage 5 :Free practice (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

First try to write on the board some human traits which ss will use in their speaking task , and clarify the meaning and form .Clarify the meaning and form of role-model . Demonstrate using an arab singer as a role -model ,asking ss why did you choose her (Elisa ) also speak about (Magdy yakoug) .Give a handout with these traits .Ask ss to form two groups , each group will choose a role- model in their lives (e.g : an actor / a football player /a scientist .Then each one in every group to say one thing he chose this person to be his role-model .

Flexi practice • To make ss practice another speaking task because we have extra time .

Give ss some cards ,make ss form 2 groups ,then ask ss to put the cards face down . One of each group withdraws a card , then he /she can form a debate and convince her opponent in the other group that the job she chose is the best job .
