Easily confused sense verbs
Upper intermediate B2 level

Description

In this lesson students learn about sense verbs through an intensive listening task about how sight and sound affect the taste of food. The lesson will begin with the students discussing how they think Helen Keller a blind and deaf teacher communicated, followed by the MFP. Thereafter the students will have a controlled practice in form of a gapfill exercise on google forms. This will be concluded by a freer practice where the students will be speaking via breakout rooms about different topics e.g. music, museums and scenery.

Main Aims

  • To provide practise sense verbs in the context of an audio about food.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy in using the target lanuage appropriately.

Procedure

Lead-in (10-15 minutes) • To get the students engaged in the topic

T will use google jamboard to share questions for the students to discuss in breakout rooms. (2mins) Students will then have an intensive listening task and will answer questions on google forms. (3 mins) Student will then check the answers together in open class feedback. (1 min)

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • to over meaning, form and pronunciation

Teacher will use google slides to clarify meaning, form and pronunciation. Meaning- by using CCQs to elicit meaning from students and match verbs to definition on google documents. Form- asking what form of word its is, (is it an adverb, adjective or verb?) Pronunciation- model the words for the students and have them repeat it individually and chorally.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide controlled practice of the TL.

Teacher will share a Google form exercise for students to practice use of the TL. (4mins) Students will do this individuall and once completed, check answers in pairs via private messaging (2 mins) Students to teacher (Open Class Feedback) (2mins)

Freer Practice (5-10 minutes) • To allow students to communicate freely using the TL.

Teacher shares google jamboard with different topics in form of images. Send students to breakout rooms in pairs and have them discuss those topics using the TL they have learned. (3 mins) Conduct Feedback and DEC. (2 mins)
