Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T shares a link with SS, a Google Jamboard page containing pictures of famous social networks with the following questions: Are you on Facebook? What is your favourite social network?

Exposure/content preparation (5-6 minutes) • To provide a text containing information expected to be used in coming tasks through speaking practice.

T shares a Google Document link with SS and asks them to read the text in it. SS are going to have 3 minutes to read it.

Useful Language/Language preparation/MFPA (5-6 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

In this stage T presents the following words "follower", "focused" and "scroll" and analyses them as a MFPA practice. T also presents the useful phrases to use during the debate: FOCUSING ON TASK: "let's talk about... first, shall we?! EXPRESSING OPINIONS: "in my opinion..." / "As far as I'm concerned..." AGREEING/DISAGREEING: "That's a good point." / "I can't agree with that." CONCLUDING: "So, if I summarise..."

Productive Task(s) (15-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice speaking skills through a well-known topic.

1) T shares a Google Form link (Social Network Activity 1) with SS. Asks two of them to read the questions (1. When and why did you start using social networks? (2. What social network would you recommend to someone who has never used this kind of service before? Why?), checks if all SS understand what is must be answered, sets time (4 min) and send them to breakout rooms. 2) T shares a Google Form link (Social Network Activity 2) with SS. Asks one of them to read the question (1. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using social networks?) checks if all SS understand what is must be answered, sets time (4 min) and send them to breakout rooms. 3) T shares a Google Form link (Social Network Activity 3) with SS. Asks one of them to read the question (1."We are (...) to prohibit claims that people from a specific race, ethnicity, national origin, religious affiliation, caste, sexual orientation, gender identity or immigration status are a threat (...)" Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook. What do you think about Zuckerberg's words?), checks if all SS understand what is must be answered, sets time (4 min) and send them to breakout rooms.

Feedback and Error Correction / Content and Language Feedback (5-6 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T brings SS back from breakout rooms and correct possible language errors during the conversation.
