In this lesson, ss will learn about verb phrases through the situational presentation based on a reading text about daily lives.


Main Aims

  • to practice the verb phrases in the present simple tense in the context of daily lives

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practice reading for specific information and to revise food vocabulary


Warmer/Lead-in (5-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ss Look at some pictures of pictures of some people doing something T elicits the name of the actions from ss [read a newspaper- watch tv- have a pet...] Make sure that ss can pronounce "pet and newspaper" well Ask ss to guess [ what percentage of Egyptians smoke, read, watch..] Demonstrate Ex1a with the class by doing the first one together. Now let the ss work alone. Then they can check together afterwards. Ss can listen and check, but provide an answer key as well

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

• Ex2a – you can use your food pictures or the ones in the book here. First, check that the ss know the names of all the food items. • Now you can ask them which things are typically British. • Ss read the text and find out. Ex2b • Feedback

Highlighting (5-10 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Ex3 – have the ss look at the highlighted verbs and ask them about the ‘s’. They will probably know that it’s for she, he, it, etc. Continue with the rest of the exercise.

Production (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further.

go back to 2d, and ask the ss to underline 3 things which are the same and three which are different. Finally, have them write 3 full sentences about their lives.

flexi stage (5-7 minutes) • to extend the ss speaking time

1- ask ss to talk about their daily routine. 2- hang some pictures on the wall of people and their daily routine make ss discuss in pairs.
