Description

In this lesson students will be introduced to Scottish clans through gist and detail based listening activities. Introduction to the new key words will be done before the listening, Also, the class will have a short game for repeating the colours as it will be needed for one of the listening activities, The last activity will be based on the productive skills in order to use the learned new words in practice.

  • To provide gist and detailed listening practice with the help of the text about Scottish clans

Subsidiary Aims

  • To introduce new vocabulary related to the Scottish clans in the listening activities

Procedure

Lead - in (2-3 minutes) • To introduce the context of the lesson

Play the video with Scottish bagpipe music Elicit the name of the country on WB - SCOTLAND - around it words related to it that S mentions Ask students what do they know about Scotland Ask students have they been to Scotland

Pre-listening (2-3 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the colours

T chest HO Demo You will work in pairs. Student A and Student B. Student A starts. Student A: sun, butter, cheese. Student B has to guess the colour. The answer is yellow.

Listening 1 (2-3 minutes) • To check students' understanding about the colours

T sticks 4 pictures of tartans and 4 numbers on WB Listen and match the pictures with the numbers Listen once. WC discuss and decides on the correct order Ss come and stick numbers in correct order

Vocabulary (3-5 minutes) • Pre-teach new vocabulary from the upcoming listening tasks

On WB 4 pictures and 4 words Look at the words and pictures. Discuss with your partner and think which picture matches which word, And why Ask Ss to come to WB and match WCFB CCQ 1. Clan Is this a group of people or animals? – People Is this a synonym (the same) for family? – Yes In which country do we have clans? – Scotland 2. Listening 2 (2-3 minutes) • To practice gist listening

On WB Who is talking, a man or a woman? What are they talking about? Listen one time and answer these questions. PW - check WCFB - Elicit answers

Listening 3 (4-5 minutes) • Listening for details and answering questions

Listening 4 (3-4 minutes) • To practice gist listening

HO3 chest You will work in pairs. For example Faruk and Elif - you are clan blue. Discuss with your partner and answer the questions only about your clan. Faruk and Elif, how many people do you have in your clan? After all clans filled in the info. Now you need to find information about other clans. Faruk and Elif will need to find info about clan orange, white, brown. They ask questions and fill in the missing information. IF time (5-10 minutes) • To practice listening and pronunciation
