Abc Reading passage

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about Shark Tank in the context of Business. By the end of this session students will have worked on a reading task and 6 new words like : 1. Entrepreneur 2. Share of the profits 3.Product 4.Market 5. Profitable 6.Rejected her idea

  • To provide clarification of Business words in the context of Shark Tank TV show


Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Greeting : T : Hello every one How are you today ? -T asks and talk to all students for 1 or 2 minutes. - T show s some questions and asks ss to discuss them. T: In your pairs, discuss these questions for 3 minutes. -T asks 2 ss about their opinions.

Pre-Reading (14-16 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible / pre-teaching some words

-T : Watch this video and Answer these questions. -After watching students should check their answers with each other. - T gets feedback form 2 volunteers. - T : who can guess our topic today ? - T: It has 8 letters. It starts with B. - Students should guess and feel the blanks. - T pre-teaches some new vocabulary items. -T: guys , here we have some words and phrases, guess their meanings and match them with suitable definitions. individually in 2 minutes. ICQs: 1. Are you going to guess their meaning or look up in dictionary ? 2. Are you going to write their meanings or match them with their definitions ? 3. Will you do it individually or in pair ? 4. How much time do you have? - After 2 minutes, T asks them to check their answers with each other. -T gives the answer key to one of the students and that person will read the correct answers for others. - T elicits those words again and asks some CCQs. - Then T drills the words and writes them .

While-Reading (12-14 minutes) • To provide students with gist and specific information reading tasks

- T : read the first paragraph very quickly and answers these questions. individually in 2 minutes. - T : check your answers with each other. -T is monitoring and taking note if there is any errors. - T asks a students randomly about first question and that person after answering should nominate one of his/her class mates for the second question and they continue . - T divides ss into 2 groups of 3 and then gives a name and repeats those names in the second group. Then in both groups all ss have a special paragraph to read . - T: read your paragraph in 2 minutes. - T: summarize your paragraph in your group . - T is monitoring. - T: answer these questions all together based on what you have heard. - T : Choose a volunteer from your group. - 2 volunteer from each group go to the board and write their answers. - Both group will compare the answers.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to personalize and respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

-T : Imagine you are going to appear on the program and present your own product. you have 5 minutes to think and take note about what you are going to say. consider these aspects and use this useful language. ICQs: 1. Are you going to talk about a product or present your own product ? 2. will you take note ? 3. how much time do you have ? -After 5 minutes 3 volunteers will be chosen randomly and they present their products to the class. At the end of the session, T will write some of the students errors on the board and they should fix them together.
