Materials

No materials added to this plan yet.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversations in the context of the future.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of technical words and less frequently used words in the context of the future.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will introduce a number of pictures. Then ask the students what the pictures represent as a group. Each picture shows some aspect of the future.

Exposure (6-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I will put the students into breaker rooms to discuss the near future. They will discuss with their partner what their plans are for the weekend. They can talk about who they are seeing, or what activity they will do, or how they will get to their destination.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will put the students into breaker rooms. The Ss then would be given a form with a list of questions and statements. The two in the breaker room would then debate as to whether they agree or disagree with the sentence. They will then choose one of the answers for each sentence and submit the form. They will be given starter sentences to use when debating.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Students will be shown two questions. They will then be put into breaker rooms to discuss the answers and why they chose their answer: 1. If you had a time machine, would go to the future or the past? Why? 2. What age would you stay, if you could stay only one age forever?

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students will be shown two sentences as a group. They will then be put into breaker rooms to finish the sentences with their thoughts and discuss them. 1. If I had unlimited time I would.. 2. They next step in my future goals is to (finish or start).. Afterwards the students will be brought back to the main room to talk about their answers, and feedback will be given on any incorrect speech that was often used.
