TP7 Grammar
Pre-intermediate level

Description

In this lesson, students would learn about the comparatives through guided discovery based on adjectives and sentences. The lesson would start talking about similarities and differences. This is followed by text and questions related to making comparisons. Finally, there is some controlled practice through a true and false form and free practice through a speaking activity.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of comparison

Subsidiary Aims

  • I am going to introduce the grammar by using examples from the text. I would only base on the text to do the activities and I would try to give better instructions.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To make students engange with the topic

Show students two pictures and make them describe those two famous people. I am going to ask students what information do they know about them, then I am going to present certain and true information about them and make comparisons.

Text work (gist + intensive task) (5-8 minutes) • Present the target language so students can see it in a context.

Exercise 1: Give the comparative form of the adjective. Exercise 2: Show students another two pictures of two famous people and make them compare with different words.

Highlighting (3-5 minutes) • To draw students attention to the target language

Highlight the comparatives. I am going to give the students a multiple-choice exercise where they should choose the correct adjective to the description question.

Clarification (5-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language.

Cover meaning, form and pronunciation.

Controlled practice (5-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Students would work in pairs and fill in the gaps with the correct form of the verb in brackets.

Freer practice (5-8 minutes) • To provide students wtih free practice of the target language

I would ask students to work with a partner and each describe their person. Ask and answer questions to find out information about each other.
