Description

In this lesson, students will learn about kinds of movies and some expressions through guided discovery based on visual aids and discussion . they will learn how to use the passive form in their speech through controlled and free practice.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of using active and passive in the context of kinds of movies and some expressions

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a discussion in the context of movies

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

the teacher will show them some emojis and students will try to guess which movie the emojis refer to it.

Test #1 (10-15 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

teacher will show them some posters of movies and students will try to guess their kinds and what they prefer . after that the teacher will give them a worksheet .they are supposed to match the pictures of scenes of movies with their kinds

Teach (20-25 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

teacher will explain some of the confusing expressions like plot and script , horror and thriller and main cast and extra cast in a form of a discussion. teacher will explain the way people watch movies as with subtitle or dubbed using the passive form while explaining and highlighting the form to be clear

Test #2 (10-15 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Teacher will give students some examples of active and passive sentences that they discussed earlier .students will try to figure out the difference in the form .

teach (10-15 minutes) • clarify passive

teacher will explain the difference between active and passive by showing them a video of the tenses and how they can change the active sentences to passive .

controlled practice (10-15 minutes) • practice on the form of the passive

teacher will give them a worksheet in a form of a quiz to change sentences from active to passive and vice versa . teacher will exchange the answer with other students and students will check the answers .

Free practice (20-25 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Teacher will ask students to prepare a small speech about their favorite movie using active and passive . the speech should include ( cast , time of publication , kind and the country that the movie was photographed in it ) . teacher will give them 5 minutes to prepare the speech . students will discuss about which movie was new for them and they are interested in .

Feedback (7-10 minutes) • give constrictive feedback about their strength and weaknesses

after praising the students about using a good language and practicing , the teacher will write some correct and false sentences on the board . students will try to figure out the mistakes
