Description

In this lesson students improve their fluency skills through speaking. The lesson starts with a question about the most beautiful places to go on vacations. Then, students will be asked to brainstorm about this topic. Next, in pairs students will make a list of the places and the reasons why they think that. After a short discussion, they will share their ideas. In the lesson there are 3 speaking activities and finishes with feedback about the language

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher will ask a question about the most beautiful places to go on vacations. Then, students will be asked to brainstorm about this topic. Next, in pairs students will make a list of the places and the reasons why they think that. After a short discussion, they will share their ideas. Teacher will provide OCFB

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

• Ss will listen to a track about two native speakers who are planning a holiday. Ss will be asked to answer the next questions. WHEN WOULD THEY LIKE TO GO? • HOW LONG ARE THEY PLANNING TO STAY? WHAT KIND OF PLACE WOULD THEY LIKE TO GO? Ss will be exposed to the useful language that will be required to the productive tasks

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Then, teacher will clarify MPF with the next guided discovery WHAT ARE THE NEXT PHRASES DOING? • WHERE WOULD YOU LIKE TO GO? • I’D LIKE TO GO TO SPAIN • WE DON’T LIKE TO GO TO THAILAND BECAUSE IT’S VERY EXPENSIVE • WE’RE GOING TO CANCUN FOR 7 DAYS A) EXPRESSING A PREFERENCE B) ASKING FOR AN OPINION C) TALKING ABOUT THE FUTURE D) EXPRESSING A NEGATIVE OPINION Then, Ss will check their answers in pairs APPROPRIACY Students will ask the next question to discover if these phrases are formal, neutral, or informal Can I use these phrases at work or just with my family? Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

Ss will have three opportunities to practice the productive skill of speaking Here the activities Teacher will do a demo and then Ss will try the next conversation in pairs A) DO YOU HAVE SOME PLANS FOR YOUR NEXT VACATIONS? B) OH, YEAH. WE ARE GOING TO GO TO…. . B) AND YOU? A) YES, WE ARE GOING TO GO TO….. B) IS THERE A PLACE YOU DON’T LIKE TO GO? A) WE DON’T LIKE TO GO TO …….. BECAUSE IT’S …… B) RIGHT! AND IS THERE A PLACE YOU WOULD LIKE TO GO IN THE FUTURE? A) YES, I’D LIKE TO GO TO……. THAT PLACE IS TOO……. A) AND YOU? B) YES, I’D LIKE TO GO TO……. THAT PLACE IS TOO……. Teacher will provide OCFB Next activity. Ss will be asked to produce the language trough a real-task activity Imagine the next situation Student A: You are planning to go on a last-minute holiday. Decide: how long you are going to go away for (2 days, 4 days, 7 days) what kind of place you would like to go to (beach, mountain, city) how much you want to pay Student B: You are a travel agent. Ask student A questions to discover what kind of holiday he/she would like Here some ideas... How long....? What kind of place....? How much money....? Teacher will ask the next questions for the OCFB b) WHAT PLACE WOULD YOU RECOMMEND TO YOUR PARTNER? WHY? a) ARE YOU HAPPY WITH THIS RECOMMENDATION? WHY? Finally, students will have this activity in pairs DISCUSS THE NEXT QUESTIONS THINK OF THE MOST AMAZING TRIP YOU HAVE MADE WHERE DID YOU GO? WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THAT PLACE? WHAT LOCAL FOOD DID YOU TRY? WHAT PLACES DID YOU VISIT? Teacher will ask the next questions for the OCFB

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Teacher will monitor all these activities and will provide feedback about the use of language during the DEC, being careful to be respectful while giving feedback
