Main Aims

  • To provide speaking practice in the context of brands discussion.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide listening practice for gist in the context of brands.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

First, students share what they think the brands are in general. As my personal goal is to let them deduce information on their own/limit TTT, I will let them say what they think about this concept and interfere only when it is necessary. Then students do a quiz where they have to guess as many brands names as possible (breakout rooms). When they come back, they are shown the correct answers and compare theirs to the correct ones.

Exposure (10-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through listening

Listening for gist: in this part students watch a short 2 min video on what brands represent. In the video they explain it and show many brands logos. Students have to take notes on 2 most impressive facts about brands and 2 brands they recognized immediately. After that they discuss it in breakout rooms. ICQ: How much time do you have to speak?- 6 minutes. OCFB

Language Preparation (7-7 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

Students are exposed to 4 adjectives to use while speaking of diffeent brands: value for money durable reliable stylish MFP Meaning: to discover the meaning, they match the adjectives to pictures (CCQ will follow) Form: it will be highlighted that these words are adjectives, are used to describe different brands (thus any adjective related rule can be applied) Pronunciation: students will match the words to their pronunciation and do some drilling of each word
